A simulation of the top of North Holland being hit by a major flood was simulated during the international FloodEx exercise. Fictional villages were drawn on the maps in the Alkmaardermeer and in the Grote and Kleine Vliet. Hundreds of peoples were stuck for two days after a storm surge: in cars, on roofs or on small pieces of land. Some were seriously wounded, confused, aggressive or even deceased.
Both the domestic and international collective emergency services were challenged with coming to everyone's aid. FireWare was used for the simulation of a large number of scenarios. A sludge spill occurred as a result of the flood and various different barrels with hazardous substances broke adrift. This scenario was realised in the Alkmaardermeer in an environmentally friendly manner.
