CREATING REALISTIC TRAINING ENVIRONMENTS

Working on the ‘softer side’ of cooperation: the Roving Reporter

05 March 2020

Organisations devoted to guaranteeing safety are regularly faced with complex challenges, and good partnerships are crucial for tackling them. At FireWare we understand that we need each other if we really want to be successful. And that's why we created the Roving Reporter, especially for working on the softer aspects of team cooperation.

The Roving reporter is a mobile escape room used for training purposes that involves working on what could be called the 'softer side' of matters – things such as communications, prioritisation, teamwork, creating an overview, memory and cooperation. Our escape room has already been deployed in a wide range of safety regions and organisations.

A gaming element

The Roving Report employs gamification technology, and the experience is packed with gaming elements that will help participants to learn from it. This includes riddles, taking photographs and solving codes. During the game the participants are confronted with the effects of how they are playing, and they will also learn that assumptions can form obstacles to obtaining a proper picture. Given that the exercise leader bombards participants with the proven techniques of serious games, they are challenged to a perfect degree to both stay motivated and to continue learning.

The characters and the settings of the game can be changed according to your wishes, which means it can be in keeping with your organisation's house style. And if you only want to use the escape room as a one-off or occasional exercise, FireWare also has a complete set that can be rented out.

The Department of Public Works and Water Management and the Roving Reporter

At the end of 2019 the Department of Public Works and Water Management approached FireWare and asked us to create a unique experience for Emergency Responder's Day (Dag van de BHV). We set up the Roving Reporter on one of the Department's outdoor sites for two groups of incredibly enthusiastic emergency responders. A total of 20 people joined in the experience, and because the escape room was set up in a tent, the wind didn't impede the fun.
