Sometimes it is forgotten that training materials need maintenance. That is a shame, because maintenance extends the life of your materials considerably. Technical defects can also endanger the safety of a student. Periodic checks of training materials are very important. You can easily do some of that yourself. For example, consider cleaning the housing with a damp cloth or rinsing the cloth from a Silkflame. For some equipment, such as training fire extinguishers, or in the event of technical malfunctions, more specialist knowledge often is required. Therefore, you can also outsource maintenance to FireWare.
Rinsing a smoke machine is very important and easy to do yourself. Due to the constant heating and cooling of the machine, it becomes contaminated from the inside. As a result, it leaves greasy deposits behind and can clog the heating element. The smell of the smoke can also change. To prevent this, it is wise to rinse the machine from time to time. On average once every six months should do the job.
Rinsing procedure for water glycol smoke machines
- Remove the smoke fluid from the machine
- Fill the liquid tank with 1/2 to 1 litre of distilled water. Do not use tap water as this can cause limescale deposits.
- Let the machine run until the water runs out. Make sure that the machine does not run dry!
When the machine has been cleaned sufficiently, only steam will be produced by the machine. In case of extreme pollution, there is a chance that you will have to repeat the rinsing procedure.
NEN3140 inspection
It is advisable, and in some cases even mandatory, to inspect electrical appliances annually in accordance with NEN3140. With the help of a special device, it is then checked whether your machine is still safe. A common problem is that the protective earth does not function or does not function sufficiently. This is often due to a break in the power cord. This is a disturbance that can cause unsafe situations, but cannot be seen with the naked eye.
FireWare can maintain training materials and inspect your materials according to NEN3140. This can be done at your location or at FireWare in Wieringerwerf. Of course you will receive an inspection report afterwards. Feel free to contact us for the possibilities without any obligation.
