CREATING REALISTIC TRAINING ENVIRONMENTS

A day of Basic training Staging I

20 April 2012

The Roermond fire brigade followed the Basic Staging training I at their own, brand new training location in Echt. Eight participants from different posts arrive early in the morning. Expectations are very high because of the stories about the experiences of colleagues from Venlo and Weert. The atmosphere is good and friendly. It promises to be a beautiful day!

At nine o'clock the kick-off with a solid piece of theory. After all, realistic staging is more than teaching a trick to a monkey. That is why the morning is spent explaining the theoretical basic principles. The staging materials soon emerge to provide an image of these basic principles. This will eventually create a realistic staging, but that will take some practice!

Theory in practice

In the afternoon, the training quickly progresses with setting up complete scenarios. The knowledge gained in the morning is amply applied. There is a beautiful cellar fire and the hybrid technology in particular comes out well. With this technique, a combination of real fire with burning paste and a simulated firespot is made.

Realistic staging

In addition to this hybrid technique, participants also learn to create realistic scenes with home-garden-and-kitchen tools. The last scenario of the day serves as an example of this: an OGS exercise. The basis is a 25 litre barrel and dry ice. The rest of the materials all come from the supermarket and the hardware store. The right combination will cause brown foam, which looks like a chemical reaction. Especially the steaming bubbles appeal to the imagination. Participant Marco Beeren is enthusiastic about this way of working: “Innovation. With few and simple means you can create a nice staging. ”

Educational and fun

Without exception, the participants thought it was an educational, but also a fun day. Everyone went home satisfied with a lot of inspiration for the training evenings.
