No exercises for a few weeks because of the holiday period? If it were up to the Brabant Southeast Fire Brigade, that would not be the case! The fire brigades from the region were given the unique opportunity to make the most of their holidays with a large-scale exercise. FireWare was also present, to support Team Competence with the staging for one evening.
The Helmond municipal offices formed the backdrop for a spectacular scenario for four evenings. On the second floor, a fire started as the result of a gas leak. On floor three, the gas accumulates. As soon as the units arrive at the scene, a gas explosion occurs. The fire blazes to the roof, which poses a technical challenge for the access platform. Various units and emergency vehicles are involved in the exercise.
Hybrid staging
By using hybrid techniques, a combination of real fire and simulated fire, any risk of damage to the exercise location was avoided. In the offices, the fire simulation was provided by a tactical arrangement of Phoenix Silkflames, FireSpots, Cumulus and Stratus smoke machines and smoke hoses. The smoke machines and silkflames could be controlled centrally, from a tablet, with the Incident Server and Incident Clients. This enabled dynamic staging.
On the roof of the building, it was possible to stage a real fire. A Hybrid fire extinguisher was installed to simulate the spreading gas fire. The men were put on edge with the help of an explosion simulator.
FireWare provides the staging, Fire Brigade Brabant Southeast provides the control.
The simulation equipment used in this exercise comes from the specialised rental fleet of FireWare. These training materials are always ready for use in our warehouse racks. On the first evening, our simulation specialist Merijn came by to provide technical support. Since this exercise went smoothly, Fire Brigade Brabant Southeast ran the exercise independently for the rest of the week!
