Sometimes an invention crosses your path that makes you think: what a clever idea! Two months ago, our eye fell on such an invention: Erik Wannee's unhanging system. The unhanging system is a tool to respectfully salvage people who have hanged themselves.
In recent years, Erik has selflessly contributed to the development of this tool. A great initiative that was much needed in Forensic Investigation. Therefore, the FireWare team liked to contribute and support Erik. It is great that we were able to make a manikin available for further development and demonstrations. All the more so because so many other care providers will be helped with Erik's solution.
What do you do when, as a forensic doctor or forensic detective, you are confronted with someone who has hung himself high above a staircase or at the top of a barn? Many people do not want to think about it, but for Erik that is a daily reality. You will have to get the heavy body down properly and also in a safety manner. Sometimes, that is just not easy! To find a solution for this, Erik decided to develop a tool. That has become the unhanging system. The use of the tool was demonstrated in our warehouse, and we immediately made a video of it.

From shed to factory
Meanwhile, Erik's work shed has just become a factory. And now there is a 1A Forensics case in every FI-van in the east of the Netherlands. The invention is being further developed, so that the rest of forensics in the Netherlands will most likely also be able to work with the unhanging system. Interest has already been shown from abroad.
