Today marks St. Martin’s Day, a festival celebrated in different European countries for hundreds of years. Due to its rich history, the interpretation given to this festival varies from region to region. In the Netherlands nowadays, November 11 is generally marked by groups of children going door-to-door with homemade paper lanterns and singing songs in exchange for sweets.
