Today, on 25 July, FireWare reflects on what is needed to further increase safety in, on and along the water. Earlier this year, the United Nations proclaimed this date the first World Drowning Prevention Day (WDPD). We see this as an important milestone, because adults and children are still drowning worldwide unnecessarily.
According to figures from Statistics Netherlands, 107 Dutch inhabitants drowned last year. That is 31 more than in 2019. The fact that World Drowning Prevention Day has now been placed on the agenda of the United Nations does justice to the great importance of preventing drowning. For more information about the World Day to Prevent Drowning, see www.wdpd.nl.
Preparing rescuers for water rescues
As FireWare we are a proud supplier of Ruth Lee’s water rescue manikins. By training with manikins specially designed for water rescue exercises, rescuers can be better prepared for the moments when it really matters. For example, by simulating a drowning person, or the scenario of a water rescue by helicopter. For all water rescue manikins from our range, view our overview.
