We regularly conduct training exercises with foam in the Netherlands, but what do you need to pay attention to when using foam during an exercise?
The Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment has written some great guidelines for this purpose: “Dealing with fire extinguishing foam residues during emergency exercises” (source: www.infomil.nl – copied on 28-06-2016)
Despite the fact this document was already published in 2014, it may well be a good idea to put the spotlight on the effects of foam exercises on the environment once again. Are the extinguishing effects of foam really that important during all exercises? Choosing the right extinguishing foam can prevent damage to the environment.
The FireWare practice foam has very limited extinguishing properties and is 100% fluorine-free and biodegradable. Perhaps a good option for future exercises?
