CREATING REALISTIC TRAINING ENVIRONMENTS

Fire in an old factory

FireWare has been involved in the staging of a number of exercises within the scope of the Zaanstreek-Waterland Fire Service's Pumping Together exercise cycle. One of these was an exercise in the old Bruynzeel factories in Zaandam. One section was set alight so realistically that 112 was repeatedly called.

The monodisciplinary exercise was focussed on large water transport. Four firefighting units and one WTS-1000 (large water transport) went about fighting the fire. Close attention was paid to avoiding the 'spreading' of the fire.

The blaze spots and smoke machines certainly turned it into a realistic fire. The tactical set up resulted in a successful exercise and equipment which was still functioning after the large quantities of water used.
