To stage a fire realistically is a great challenge. On October 10th and 12th 2006 we took up this challenge for the “Duinkonijn” exercise in the dunes of Haarlem. It is difficult to simulate wildfires because you have to deal with external factors over which you have no control. There are also practical issues, such as the power supply, that make such a simulation more difficult. Yet, we managed it again, and we are proud of that!
Staging a wildfire
The best time to simulate a dune or forest fire is at dusk or in the dark. With a lot of smoke and good fire glow spots, it is possible to create a realistic idea. The outdoor smoke fluid – a liquid specially developed for the simulation of wildfires – was very useful. One of the biggest challenges with such a production is the power supply. Fortunately FireWare has a number of useful rental products for this.
This simulation covered an area of approximately 1.5 Hectare, which is a considerable area for a simulation. People from all over the area thought there was really something going on.... We look back on a super successful project with Haarlem fire brigade!
