Communication is an essential part of a emergency assistance training course. But what is the best way to practise it? Desirée Maassen and Brenda van Randen of the RBOC Fort Markenbinnen training centre have their own ideas about that. In any case, it had to be different. More interactive, with improved experience. More challenging and above all, more educational. FireWare was allowed to come up with a fitting solution: the BOM-COM!
The BOM-COM is a didactic escape game, that can be played at a training centre or on location. The group of students is divided into two. One group has to dismantle the bomb. The other group has the instructions. By means of walkie-talkies, the groups communicate with each other and together they can defuse the bomb within the time limit. Provided that they communicate well and work together, of course!
Learning through experience
All the steps that have to be completed during dismantling ensure a positive learning result. This is due to the ‘learning through experience’ principle. Even if the bomb is not successfully dismantled, numerous relevant learning and teaching objectives are achieved. The BOM-COM is fun, exciting and interactive, but above all an educational tool. This is how the BOM-COM distinguishes itself from an “ordinary” escape game.
The BOM-COM is future-proof. By adjusting the software, various additional and supplementary games can be programmed in the future. Numerous switches, touchscreens and connectors are integrated. Together, these can form new challenges. The hardware is ready!
The fleet of BOM-COMS at RBOC Fort Markenbinnen will be expanded in the coming period! Would you like to play the BOMCOM game? Then please contact the training centre.
