How do you prepare emergency response teams to free a victim from a confined space? In the fall of 2019, Eight2O, fire and ambulance services were confronted with this dangerous rescue operation. Under the watchful eye of our British partner Ruth Lee, they had to rescue a victim from a 5 meter deep trench, with less than 1.5 meters of room to move.
A Confined Space Manikin was used to set up the scenario. The limbs of this manikin can be separated into components of up to 25 kilograms. This made it easy to carry and position the manikin into the scenario.
Practice in confined spaces
Eight2O is the UK's largest alliance water and wastewater company. Many employees of the organization regularly enter confined spaces, so that the danger is always lurking. The training day also included the South Central Ambulance Service HART Team and specialist technical rescue crews from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue. They ensured that a collaborative approach could be adopted for best practise.
The Confined Space Manikin is ideal for simulating a victim in a confined space. In addition, the manikin is also excellent for search and rescue training scenarios, for exercises of road accidents and for mountain or cave rescue scenarios. Because the limbs are detachable, the instructor can choose to leave one limb off to simulate an amputee for example. For more information about this manikin, see our webshop.
