Somewhere in the Westland area, a boy accidentally kicks his football over the fence of Mr. Zwinkels, an old gardener. The boy shouts Mr. Zwinkels’ name and knocks on the garden door, but there is no answer. That is odd, because Mr. Zwinkels certainly is at home! The boy therefore asks for help from the participants to get his ball back. It is urgent, because if he won’t make it home within an hour, his mother will be very upset.
The situation at The Horticulture seems innocent at first sight. However, nothing could be further from the truth! Mr. Zwinkels’ workshop soon turns out to be a secret agricultural poison trade. Participants have to crack codes, solve puzzles and use complex clues to find their way out of the tomato farm.
Learn while playing
The Horticulture has been developed in a hybrid form. The escape room can therefore be used for emergency response training, but also for entertainment purposes. The game is full of hints and clues, but also full of deceptions. It is dark and the students have to look for clues under time pressure. Good communication and teamwork are essential to progress in the game.
Decor
A well-kept secret is that Arie Camfferman, founder and owner of AC Opleidingen, is a very skilled woodworker and set builder. His passion is clearly reflected in this escape room. FireWare was able to support Arie in developing the concept into a playable game.
The three (!) rooms of this escape room are equipped with background sounds, sound and light effects and interactive game elements. Those are all coordinated. All video clips and sound effects used in the escape room have been realized by the FireWare design team. The entire installation is controlled by means of a tablet. During the game, the actions of the participants are monitored by a camera system. The instructor can therefore watch their actions live, via the same tablet. This way, hints can be given at the right time. Also, the actions of emergency responders can be assessed in this way.
Interactive walkie-talkie and telephone traffic
One of the masterpieces in this escape room is the automated handling of walkie-talkie and telephone traffic. The participants receive hints through these means of communication. If the hint is not necessary, the hint is not given. This affects the speed of the students. This is especially nice when the escape room is part of a lesson plan.
