CREATING REALISTIC TRAINING ENVIRONMENTS

The wildfire season is just around the corner: nice set of training materials for Safety Region Utrecht

02 May 2022

The wildfire season has started again. Safety regions throughout the Netherlands prepare for this season throughout the year. Of course, part of these preparations are the exercises. Often digital, but also in practice. And it’s these practical exercises that make FireWare’s heart beat faster!

Simulating a wildfire realistically is complex. That cannot be denied in any way. The heat is intense and difficult to simulate. Not all aspects of a wildfire, especially during the day, can be realistically staged. There are more possibilities at dusk and in the evening. However, most wildfire exercises are held during the day. Nevertheless, there is a great deal that can be done to create a good image. And there is also a high degree of interactivity possible!

Fire signs with magnets

Especially for Safety Region Utrecht FireWare developed “flame signs with magnets”. This set of over 100 pieces is placed in a nature reserve by means of a pen. The flame signs are attached to these pens per magnet. With a jet of water, the signs can be hosed off from the pen. The fire is then “extinguished”. The chains ensure that the signs are all neatly found again and cannot be found throughout the area.

Specially developed wildfire smoke machine: the BAMBI

The “BAMBI” was developed in order to get smoke from the ground of the natural reserve in a realistic way. This wildfire simulator is able to create smoke curtains over large lengths as a line source. When a smoke generator is placed loose in a nature reserve, it behaves much more like a point source. This effect is a lot less realistic!

Safety Region Utrecht has prepared a large quantity of PVC tubes with a hole pattern. These tubes are connected to the BAMBI. This special forest fire smoke generator is able to keep the entire tube system under pressure and to evenly inject large quantities of smoke. The power of the BAMBI can be determined from the available power generators.

Co-creation ensures innovation

The set is a fine example of co-creation between Safety Region Utrecht and FireWare. By combining knowledge and expertise, they can work together on beautiful, innovative training solutions. With this set, a simulation solution has been delivered that actively contributes to a better competence in the region. After all, that is what it is all about!

Also your own training set?

FireWare likes to think along about different simulation solutions. Do you have a specific simulation need? Or do you also want a BAMBI or a set of flame signs with magnets? It’s not our first rodeo! Feel free to contact us and together we’ll see how we can come to a nice solution!
